When God Opens Heaven: Love Comes Rushing In
By Open Heavens Church – Bolivar, MO
Heaven Isn’t Far. It’s One Whisper Away.
The phrase “open heavens” sounds grand, doesn’t it?
Thunder. Clouds parting. Angels in song.
But what if the most beautiful part of open heavens isn’t the spectacle…
It’s the love that pours through?
When the Bible speaks of heaven opening, it’s not a fantasy.
It’s God saying, “I see you. I’m coming close.”
And when He does? Love walks in the door.
Jacob: The Wanderer Who Found a Gateway
Jacob was running—from family, from consequences, maybe even from himself.
With a rock for a pillow and guilt in his heart, he collapsed in the wilderness.
But instead of rejection, Jacob encountered this:
“Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”
— Genesis 28:12 (NKJV)
And the Lord said:
“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go…”
— Genesis 28:15 (NKJV)
Jacob didn’t climb up to heaven.
Heaven came down to Jacob.
That’s grace. That’s love. That’s open heavens.
Stephen: The Martyr Who Saw Glory
Stones were flying. Angry fists were clenched.
Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, stood firm as injustice roared around him.
“But he… gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God... ‘Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!’”
— Acts 7:55–56 (NKJV)
Heaven opened.
Jesus stood to welcome him.
God didn’t miss Stephen’s pain.
And He doesn’t miss yours.
Heaven Opens for the Brokenhearted
You may not feel heaven tearing open over your life…
But have you ever:
Heard a worship song that brought you to tears?
Felt peace when your world was falling apart?
Received strength when you had none left?
That’s open heaven.
God meeting you right where you are.
What Closes Heaven?
Sometimes it feels like the sky is sealed tight.
But the barrier is never God’s love. It’s often our own hearts:
Unforgiveness
Bitterness
Shame
Pride
Fear
Yet even then, God calls out:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (NKJV)
He doesn’t ask you to be perfect.
He just asks you to come.
Heaven Tore Open for Jesus… and for You
At Jesus’ baptism, heaven could hold back no longer:
“The heavens were opened to Him… and suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”
— Matthew 3:16–17 (NKJV)
And when Jesus died, the veil in the temple was torn in two—top to bottom:
“Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom...”
— Matthew 27:51 (NKJV)
What does that mean?
The way is open.
Access granted.
No more barriers.

Final Thoughts: Love Is Pouring Down
The same God who opened heaven for Jacob, Stephen, and Jesus…
wants to open heaven for you.
Not because you prayed perfectly.
Not because you never messed up.
But because He loves you too much to stay away.
Let Him in.
Lift your eyes.
Open your heart.
Heaven is open.
And love is rushing through.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
— James 4:8 (NKJV)
